Black One is the first modern entertainment company in the West.

So far, these companies have primarily existed in Asia and South Korea. Well, Black One is here to change that.

The mission is clear: we want to build the next generation of groundbreaking idols. And with that, we’re building one exciting entertainment ecosystem.

Thankfully, this fresh approach is drawing thousands of applications from all over the world. But not just talent, many talented creatives in the fields of design, video, music, photography, etc. are all competing to be part of our ecosystem.

This is why we’re proud to share some fantastic work by the talented visual artist Daehwisdays (Sophie M.) today. She has been working at Black One for the past months and it has been a pleasure to watch her make our essence come alive in visually stunning ways.

I discovered Black One Entertainment online and reached out to them. I didn’t know much about the company and when I contacted them, I was amazed at how perfect the place seemed and I was keen to learn about their approach. They draw a big part of their method from the K-pop industry and seeing a company take the more positive elements of something and put it into an aspiration for something bigger is what I look to do, on a smaller scale, within my own art.

But for now, without further ado, let’s have a look at some of the great artworks created.

The Black One Essence

Black One’s mission is simple: to develop the next generation of iconic, groundbreaking superstar idols while bringing joy and inspiration to hundreds of millions (potentially billions).

This is also what gets us excited every morning.

We’re looking forward to all the great talents applying and potentially joining us here soon in Berlin.

Spread the word and all your support is very welcome.

Be the one on stage. Be the spark in the dark for millions.
All beginnings are humble. A thousand-mile journey starts with one step at a time.

The Typical Artist Journey & State of the Industry

One of the first topics to visualize was the typical artist's journey and state of the music industry.

The music industry is still one of the most fragmented, inefficient and unfair industries that exist. Our goal was to use graphics to help visualize the painful and erratic journey most face in the current system. These visualizations are meant to be controversial.

An extra in-depth post will follow explaining everything in much more detail.

The Artist “Desert.” Not knowing where to go, giving up easily, seeing “hallucinations.”

In short: talent / artists almost always start out alone in the “desert.” This is where they have to develop their skills, figure out what they want to do and who they want to be. Do they really want a career in music? The desert will test this belief for them.

It’s an often lonely journey. All one is clinging onto is the belief that one day it might be different and their dreams will become a reality.

Sadly, this isn’t the case for most. In particular, within the label system, where one has to figure it all out by themselves. Only once you’ve done most of the work and built a career by yourself, the label might be interested.

Today’s Artist “Factory.” Talent is stripped of their uniqueness to fit a mold. The result: one-hit wonders.

Major labels either pluck artists from the wild and treat them like they have been farmed, so they cease to grow, or they farm them themselves, creating clones that are boring and don’t last.

The Talent “Wilderness.” Where artists are plucked from the wild and treated like they were farmed; fed with debt.

Black One, by contrast, is like “the garden.” Taking a lot of care over the growth and development of each seed, pruning, and training where necessary to make the best “products” designed for people to enjoy.

We’re doing so by combining the right system, physical space and infrastructure to excel in. With our partner Funkhaus Berlin, this is possible and we’re now on track to open the “Hogwarts for Future Popstars”. With this Black One is absolutely unique in the Western world, bringing together the best pieces of the “K-Pop approach”, professional sports and startup best-practices.

On Black One Talent

For Black One, their talent is of utmost importance. Young talent but also more established artists. In this visual artwork series, the goal was to visualize the different evolution stages of the talent coupled with our brand identity.

Exclusive Interview with the artist (Sophie M.) behind Daehwisdays

A short intro of yourself: Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Sophie, I’m a student, currently residing in Berlin and working with Black One Entertainment on this collaboration. And besides that, I am running also my own Artwork Instagram channel. As you can see, I like to create fanarts of my favourite K-pop groups and music artists in my free time.

What is your background? How did you get into the drawing and how did you get so good?

It sounds horribly cliché, but I have drawn ever since I could hold a pencil, it has always been the easiest way for me to express myself, and it’s how I enjoy the things I love. In primary school, I used to replicate cartoon characters like SpongeBob or Spinelli from Recess for my friends, and ever since then, my arts have always been strongly influenced by my long list of interests and fandoms.

I didn’t really get into digital art until I moved away from home for university, and then I turned to drawing and my long-term love of K-pop. I ended up combining the two and creating K-pop fanarts, getting into a routine of drawing every day and posting my fanarts. At the beginning of 2019, I challenged myself to really push my art, focusing more on creating a whole piece, as well as trying to be more accurate with characters features. Because of this, my art has changed so much within this year alone. I definitely still have a long way to go, however, I’m happy with where my art is at the moment.

What is this collaboration about?

It’s about trying to visualize the future and potential of Black One. So far we’ve looked at what the groups could become, as well as working out how to represent everything Black One is offering, using just illustration. It’s also cool that it might inspire young people to strive for their goals and consider putting them into motion through this. A lot of people know about K-pop and the fans often know how much hard work and planning goes on behind the scenes to achieve the effect that so many k-pop releases have, both music-wise and visually. I think that because of this people will be more inspired to look into Black One and follow in the footsteps of their idols and be the next generation of global musicians and it’s really cool to be a small part of it.

How did this collaboration get initially started and why do you think there is a good fit with what Black One does and yourself?

I discovered Black One Entertainment online and reached out to them. I didn’t know much about the company and when I contacted them, I was amazed at how perfect the place seemed and I was keen to learn about their approach. They draw a big part of their method from the K-pop industry and seeing a company take the more positive elements of something and put it into an aspiration for something bigger is what I look to do, on a smaller scale, within my own art.

I applied as this was immediately screaming at me as the perfect internship, and I started some illustrations over the summer before moving to Berlin in September and this became a full-scale collaboration. So far, the experience has been great, working with new people, whilst being able to do something I love and learning new things simultaneously.

What do you think the future will hold for yourself and Black One?

I think Black One will blow up in the music industry! They are trying something completely new in the west and I think it’s got potential to really change the industry for the better. I can’t wait to see the groups and support the music they release in the future!

As for myself, I hope to be able to continue making art of the things I love, and hopefully in the future once I’ve suffered through my last year of university, I can come back and collaborate with Black One again

What else do you want to tell the people out there?
